🎃 PLPOA Halloween House‑Decorating Contest

Official Contest Packet – 2026

The PLPOA Halloween House‑Decorating Contest celebrates creativity, community spirit, and spooky seasonal fun. All residents are invited to participate by decorating their homes in festive Halloween style. Judges will evaluate displays based on creativity, theme, safety, and overall presentation.

🧹 Contest Rules & Guidelines

1. Temporary Exterior Decorations

Seasonal Halloween decorations are permitted within PLPOA. All displays must remain safe, securely installed, and in compliance with community standards. Decorations may not create hazards, cause nuisances, or obstruct pathways, driveways, or common areas.

2. Lighting Guidelines

Seasonal lighting is allowed as part of Halloween displays. All lighting must be directed appropriately, avoid excessive brightness, and respect nighttime lighting expectations. Flashing or strobe lights should be used responsibly to avoid disturbing neighbors or creating safety concerns.

3. Noise & Sound Effects

Audio‑based decorations must comply with PLPOA nuisance rules and established quiet hours. Sound effects should be kept at a reasonable volume and must not disturb nearby residents or interfere with peaceful enjoyment of surrounding properties.

4. Structures & Inflatables

Large inflatables or temporary structures must not obstruct views, encroach on easements, or create safety concerns. Items that may impact property lines, visibility, or access could fall under ECC guidelines and must remain compliant with all PLPOA regulations.

5. General Prohibitions

Decorations may not:

• Create safety hazards
• Block sidewalks or access routes
• Interfere with neighbors’ use of their property
• Violate PLPOA Rules & Regulations or ECC standards

Any display found to be unsafe or non‑compliant may be subject to removal under PLPOA enforcement policies.

🧛 Judging Criteria

Judges will score each home based on the following categories:

• Creativity & Originality Unique concepts, imaginative themes, and creative use of materials.
• Visual Impact Overall presentation, cohesiveness, and “wow” factor.
• Halloween Spirit Festive, spooky, fun, or thematic elements that capture the holiday.
• Safety & Compliance Decorations must follow PLPOA rules and avoid hazards.
• Nighttime Presentation Lighting effects, visibility, and ambiance after dark.

Each category will be scored on a 1–10 scale, with the highest total score determining the winner.

The goal is to score as many points as possible in the fastest time. There are 50 points possible: 6 points for each of the 8 sports, plus 2 bonus points for speed. Competitors are ranked by score, with the fastest time as the tiebreaker.

General Rules

There must be an attempt on every ball before moving to the next ball. Only one attempt is allowed per ball. Attempts must be in order: from the ball closest to the target to the ball farthest away. Attempt from behind the shot boundary.

The Start

Competitors are called to the starting line by the Referee in order of their competitor number. The competitor may cross the starting line on the Referee’s command: “ready,” followed by a pause, then a whistle.

Golf – On the whistle, the competitor moves from the starting line and picks up a golf club, then onto the golf mat. The balls may be adjusted by hand on the mat and hit in any order. Every ball hit by a golf club and coming to a stop inside the golf target scores 2 points.

Football – If, after being thrown, the ball passes through the center opening of the football target, points are scored: 1 for the ball closest to the target, 2 for the second farthest, and 3 for the farthest.

Soccer – If, after being kicked, the ball hits the net inside the soccer target, points are scored: 1 for the ball closest to the goal, 2 for the second farthest, and 3 for the farthest.

Tennis – If, after being hit with the tennis racquet, the ball passes through the center opening of the tennis target, points are scored: 1 for the ball closest to the target, 2 for the second farthest, and 3 for the farthest.

Basketball – If, after being shot, the ball goes completely through the net of the basketball target, points are scored: 1 for the ball closest to the target, 2 for the second farthest, and 3 for the farthest.

Volleyball – Players may pick up and serve the balls in any order.  Every ball served over the net that hits the target between the two flags is worth 2 points.

Strength– The medicine balls must be tossed in order, beginning with the lightest, then midsize, then heaviest. Balls hitting on or beyond the strength target and between the cones on first contact with the ground score 1 point for the first ball, 2 points for the second ball, and 3 points for the third ball.

Speed – The competitor runs through the finish line 60 feet away. Points are scored for total course run time: 8 points for under 1.20 seconds, 6 points for under 1.39 seconds, 4 points for under 1.59 seconds, 2 points for under 2.29 seconds, 1 point for under 3 seconds.

Join the Babysitters Club! Let’s build something new for our community.

If you have graduated from the Babysitter’s Training Course, you can join the Babysitters Club! Come to the Rec Center every Friday this Fall and help set up activities for Kids Club.

Certified Babysitters will gain valuable, supervised work experience as interns at Kids Club, connect with parents looking for certified babysitters, and receive gift certificates when they reach milestones for hours worked.

Free Childcare While You Workout!

When you come to work out at the PLPOA Rec Center, consider bringing your children along for the fun that awaits them at Kids Club, the Rec Center’s new childcare program. Children ages six weeks to 10 years old who are members can participate in age-appropriate activities in a safe environment—free for Members.

Kids Club for infants to preschoolers:
Fridays from 12:00-1:30 pm 

Kids Club for 5 to 10-year-olds:
Fridays from 3:00-4:30 pm 

We have limited space available, sign up today to secure your spot.  

Parent-on-site-rule: A parent or guardian must remain inside the facility
while your child is in the care of a PLPOA staff member.

Guidelines:
Availability is on a first-come, first-served basis; capacity is limited to ensure safe supervision.

Kids Care is available to PLPOA Rec Center members only who are participating in on-site programs; punch passes may be used.

Check in at the Front Desk and then bring your children to Kids Club for drop-off and pick-up in the aerobics room.

Outdoor/playground is available and will be made available for children; in inclement weather, we will have an indoor area for kids to play.
